Movement Process of Material in the Rotary Kiln

The materials move constantly towards the warm end under the constant rotation of the kiln machine. Under the effect of heat exchange inside this mining equipment, the raw material is burned into clinker. For this reason, the working principle of this machine is closely linked to the movement of the material in the kiln, the flow of the gas, burning of the fuel and the heat transformation of the material and the gas.

The movement process of the material in the kiln is as follows: the raw material is fed into the machine from the cold end and burned into clinker by way of the heat exchange in the process of moving towards the warm end. The movement condition of the material inside the equipment has significant influence on the uniformity of the temperature of the supplies layers. The speed and state of the material motor is directly affecting the time and size being heated of the materials in the kiln, for this reason, it also has significant influence on the heat transformation effect between the materials and the warm gas. In addition, the motor process of the materials inside the pit also has an effect on the output of the kiln equipment. The motor process of the materials granularity inside the rotary kiln is pretty complicated.

Let us suppose that the material particles do not glide on the pit walls and inside the material layers, when the pit rotates, it will be bring up by the frictional force, upon a certain height, and it will slide down with the effect of the gravity along with the surface of the pit. Because the pit body is slant, the particles will drop down after moving some distances forward instead of dropping down to the original position, just like this way, the particles will move forwards over and over again. As a matter of fact, the motor process of the particle inside the rotary kiln has a certain cyclic and regular variation, for example, the material particles are buried into the material layers and move together with the rotary kiln, or drop down after reaching the surface of the material layers, however, only during the dropping process can the particles move along the pit direction.

The kiln is a cylindrical vessel, inclined slightly to the horizontal, which is rotated slowly about its axis. The material to be processed is fed into the upper end of the cylinder. As the kiln rotates, material gradually moves down towards the lower end, and may undergo a certain amount of stirring and mixing. Hot gases pass along the kiln, sometimes in the same direction as the process material (co-current), but usually in the opposite direction (counter-current). The hot gases may be generated in an external furnace, or may be generated by a flame inside the kiln. Such a flame is projected from a burner-pipe (or 'firing pipe') which acts like a large bunsen burner. The fuel for this may be gas, oil or pulverized coal.
