Information on Two Major Rotary Kilns

AUTHOR: admin       DATE: 24 May 2012 05:53:09

The rotary kiln designed, researched and developed by Hongxing Machinery is a new type of thermal processing equipment for the purpose of heating the bulk or slurry material and which is used in various industries such as non-ferrous metallurgy, ferrous metallurgy, refractory, cement, environmental protection, chemical and paper industries. Hongxing Machinery is the leader in rotary kiln design, engineering, installation and repair for the lime, cement, and minerals industries.

Rotary kilns are a critical component in manufacturing of cement, lime and mineral products. With over 20 years of experience servicing these industries, Hongxing Machinery plays a critical part in the ongoing design, fabrication and repair of these rotary kiln installations. From the complete design of a new kiln system to process auditing and on-site operator training you can count on our company as a partner in keeping your operations up and running.

There are two types of rotary kilns, named after the sense of solids- compared to gas flow in the kiln: one is counter-current rotary kiln and the other is co-current rotary kiln.

As for the first one, flue gases flow in the opposite direction of the waste, against the inclination of the kiln. Solids move by the rotary motion and by gravity from the high end to the low end of the kiln. Incoming combustion air is cold (ambient) and contains max oxygen level. While flowing to the front of the kiln, the air heats up and gradually loses its oxygen to the combustion of the solids – basically becoming flue gas - so that at the front of the kiln the Exiting gases contain little oxygen and is hot.

And the other one, flue gases flow in the same direction of the waste, with the inclination of the kiln. Solids move by the rotary motion and by gravity from the high end to the low end of the kiln. Incoming combustion air is cold (ambient) and contains max oxygen level. While flowing to the back of the kiln, the air heats up and gradually loses its oxygen to the combustion of the solids – basically becoming flue gas - so that at the back of the kiln the Exiting gases contain little oxygen and is hot

The main difficulty with the counter-current kiln is the temperature gradient across the fire door which seals off the waste hopper from the kiln entry. This require specially engineered designs and a lot of experience to make the fire door reliable and long-lasting. This is the main reason why the counter-current kiln is not more wide-spread.

Our state-of-the-art fabrication facility and ability to arrange equipment transportation by truck, rail and water eliminate many of the complexities associated with kiln projects. Additionally, our highly experienced in-house installation crews ensure all equipment is properly installed on site. Our rotary kiln experience goes far beyond the design and fabrication of the kiln shell. Our company can also supply jaw crusher rollers, rings, gearing, bearings, and seals. Our field services group can install any component with our own experienced and the trained crews and provide you with ‘turnkey' solutions.
