The Comprehensive Recycling of Iron Tailings Has Many Benefits
In recent years, the rising market price of iron ore concentrate makes some of the low-valued ores has mining value, which results in the continuously increasing in the number of the years of tailing stockpiles in China. The growing tailing stockpile not only occupies land resources, but causes serious environmental pollution. So, reusing these iron tailings, creating economic benefits and reducing environmental pollution are increasingly important.
Domestic and foreign research and application prove that the tailings contain some mineral colloids that have certain electrical, absorbent and huge surface energy. In the excitation of alkaline environment, this colloidal can produce iron exchange with the hydration products of the cement slurry. Thus, a new aggregate is formed that can play a new role. This proves the feasibility of the reuse of iron tailings.
The comprehensive recycling of iron tailings plays huge role in extending the service life of tailing pond, reducing security risks, economizing management and governing environment. For many years, China has conducted a lot of research work on the comprehensive utilization of the iron tailings and achieved certain results. The comprehensive utilization of iron tailings mainly reflects in the following aspects.
1. Iron recycling. At present, the re-separated critical iron taste of iron tailings in our country is 6.2%. The re-separated research of the most of the iron tailings has focused on the magnetite iron tailings library. The magnetic iron is primarily recycled in the iron tailings. Some of the enterprises combine the magnetic separator with efficient centrifuge, which makes the recycled ore concentrated reach 63%~65% and realizes high recovery of fine-grained iron tailings. This method reaches iron tailings indicators and reduces the environmental pollution, which has high economic and social benefits.
2. Tailings recovery of valuable elements. A considerable part of the iron tailings belongs to multi-metal tailings that contain rich metallic minerals and a certain amount of non-metallic minerals. Through re-separating, the valuable elements are recycled, which can extend the reserves and obtain obvious economic benefits for the enterprises.
3. Backfill the mined areas. Take advantage of the tailings to backfill the mined areas can reduce the refilling costs and mine production costs, which not only can solve the problem of large accumulation of tailings occupying land resources, but effectively avoid environmental pollution and reduce the risk of mining surface subsidence.
4. Act as the building materials and raw productive materials. Iron tailings can be used in the construction of embankment and concrete aggregate. Besides, they can also be used in the urban sewage treatment and soil improvement.
